Hang out at the world's largest golden gourd? (The lady I got to hold Jerome burst out laughing when she saw him).
Manipulate the concepts of space and perspective for pleasure rather than profit?
Meditate on marble?
Take more than slightly-controversial photographs (do I need to censor this?)?
NO!
We will do all these things and more in our quest for culture at the...
Yep, I decided to explore one of the largest art museums in California, the J. Paul Getty Museum.
Once I got there, I got the obligatory photo of the main desk.
You can smile too, Sir
The lady was enchanted by Jerome. Apparently, her daughter studied herpetology and currently studies dinosaurs. Awesome. What was not so awesome was the fact that I was not allowed to take photos in the gallery the lady recommended. I may have gotten away with it if I used my DS...or my phone...or my ninja skills, but my parental units taught me better than that, so no photos in the galleries.
No blog photos for me...
Fortunately, there were plenty of places outside of the galleries were photographs were allowed, so I got a shot of Jerome playing in a private fountain.
Whee!
In the next gallery, the guard said I could take pictures, but I opted not to. Most of the art was religious in nature, and plunking a mosasaurus plushie next to a crucifix or a bodhavista just seemed like a number four in the ten layers of wrong, so no photos in there. I did find something interesting in the walls outside, though.
Among the fossils
Apparently, the quarry supplying the stone for the building also donated some blocks with fossils. Jerome is resting in a bed of ancient reeds (or tube worms...I'm leaning towards tube worms).
We also visited the gardens.
That hand in the corner is proof of good in the world. As I was setting up the picture, a big gust of wind went by and nearly knocked Jerome into the unreachable pond below. Fortunately, a hat-wearing hero saved him and held him in place for the photo. He is a becapped pillar of wonderful.
After that, I decided to stick to ground-level photos.
I'm weird, but I'm happy
A direct quote to the guy that looked at me funny when I took this shot.
Mmmmnnnn, violets
Considering the formality of the museum, I was surprised by the presence of so many families with young children. Some families seemed more taken by the place than others.
It was fun, but I saw the main exhibits, so to avoid traffic, we left via the tram.
Such wonderful oaks...
GAH!!!
Until my next adventure, have fun all!
